What are the 4 Types of Talk Therapies?

What is Talk Therapy?

Talk therapies is a form of psychological treatment where a patient suffering from mental, emotional and stressful thoughts consults a mental health practitioner, who helps in evolving those negative thoughts and feelings into the negative.

The mental health practitioner who treats the patients is commonly known as a psychiatrist, psychologist, or therapist.

Talking therapy is a widespread treatment that is accessible in many major countries such as the US, Canada, Australia and the UK. Talking therapy UK involves a much professional and highly skilled level approach, where many patients often recovered from the stressful PTSD issues in a lesser time period.

4 Types of Talk Therapies

There are major four types of talk therapies effective for the mental health of a person.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is designed to alter the negative thought patterns in an individual by addressing the behavioural approach towards harmful and destructive life situations. CBT usually consists of 12-20 sessions, in which a therapist gives his/her treatment to a patient. Commonly, people with anxiety, depression, phobias, panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and some eating disorders, especially bulimia, are given cognitive behavioural treatment.

Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)

Interpersonal therapy (IPT) focuses on the relationship of a patient with his/her closely-knit family members, relatives, life partners or peers. Therapist tries to deal with the depression and analyses the negative feelings or unrest between his relations and him. IPT sessions usually cover 16 – 20 sessions, after which an individual starts to improve mental health.

Humanistic Therapy (HT)

Humanistic therapy (HT) focuses on an entire worldview of an individual. The way a person thinks, acts, believes, perceives and feels. By examining the thought pattern of an individual a therapist tries to dig out all the negatives and obstacles which are preventing a patient from achieving his/her goals, paying his/her respects, bias and other important aspects. Humanistic therapy lasts till 5-10 sessions.

Counselling

Counselling has been the most demanded among the masses for several decades. Counselling covers all the major life and mental health issues of an individual. A counsellor helps in overcoming the life difficulties, why a person is facing this issue and presents with expert-level advice to solve the active issues of life. Counselling is helpful if a person has chronic pain, struggling to cope with a long-term condition, having an addiction, having a fertility problem or facing major setbacks in life. Moreover, counselling sessions usually takes about 6-12 sessions.

Final Thoughts

Mental health is as important as physical health. Never show carelessness in this regard. For that purpose, it is crucial to get talk therapy if you are suffering from depression, stress, anxiety issues, OCD, PDST, mental disability, loss of a partner or close family member, meeting with challenges and don’t know the cause, getting triggered by people or much more. After undergoing talk therapy sessions from professionals you will start to feel emotionally stable.
